I Hate the Way I Don't Hate You

In the realm of the exquisite corpse framework I embark on an exploration of the intricate emotions and memories woven into the fabric of high school life specifically around love and betrayal. This soundscape project titled "I Hate the Way I Don't Hate You" is centered around the spoken word poem in one of my all time favorite movies 10 Things I Hate About You. In this scene of the movie the main character has just found out her boyfriend she had fallen in love with was only using her for money. The goal of my piece is to weave in the memories of high school with the common feeling of young heartbreak. The resulting auditory landscape immerses the audience in a haunting tapestry of nostalgia and introspection.

I used sounds from busy spaces on campus and intertwined them with some layered atmospheric crackling and whooshing. I also added some different sound bites like a cat meow to add a verity to the piece before the monologue.

"Exquisite Corpse Soundscape" invites listeners to navigate a contemplative journey through the multifaceted corridors of high school memories. The ambient sounds serve not merely as a backdrop but as an essential element, fostering a connection between the personal and the collective human experience. This synthesis of dialogue and ambiance transcends conventional artistic boundaries, offering a unique perspective on the universal themes of identity, passage of time, and the bittersweet nuances of growing up.

In essence, this project becomes a meditation on the shared tapestry of our formative years, encouraging reflection on the complexity of adolescence. Regardless of the listeners context of the poem from the movie this piece is an immersive encounter, where the convergence of auditory elements and emotional narratives invites the audience to rediscover the profound beauty within the seemingly mundane corridors of high school life.
