For my zine I wanted to do something that was very interesting in a collage format. I have been getting into making collages a lot more lately and I feel like that can hold a lot of emotion. Because in this assignment we aren't allowed to use words to convey meaning I want to focus on using emotional imagery in a maximalist way to convey meaning. I really like the casual nature of zines and how they can be very playful as well so most of my ideas are very unserious. My two biggest Ideas are core core and yolo is my culture.
The first idea is centered around the core core movement on social media which was defined best by Time Magazine as, "... an anti-trend that can be loosely defined as similar and disparate visual and audio clips that are meant to evoke some form of emotion." Since the zine is in print form my goal is to make spread wide collages to show to all consuming emotions that I see everyday. I'm not sure which direction I'll go in but I think as I work on it it will come to me.
My second idea is along the same vein but its collaged photos and drawing I've done in my life to show how important fun and living life to the fullest is. To structure this I want to center it around the past four years of my life. Not to sound to cheesy but during the pandemic I, like everyone, had a lot of alone time. I questioned and analyzed my life extensively and I began to make life choices on what I wanted rather than my parents. I was 17 when the pandemic started and that's an age when most people began to think for themselves and find themselves so the isolation really accelerated that process for me. Again I'm not sure how I'll fill all the pages but I have lots of art and pictures from this last couple years and I'm excited to see how this stream of conscious project will turn out.
Here is an inspiration image of the general vibe I want my collage to have.
